How to Assemble Vinyl Fencing

Vinyl fencing is virtually maintenance-free because it will never rust, rot, peel, splinter or crack. Vinyl fencing never needs painting and is UV-resistant, ensuring it more than likely will never fade. Most vinyl fences assemble in the same fashion, but there are some differences between manufacturers. It's extremely important to read the manufacturer's directions for your specific vinyl fencing kit. Vinyl fencing materials are pre-cut to length; simply insert the post and lock the pieces together.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan the location of the vinyl fence and mark it with stakes and string. Pound stakes into the ground at the corner locations with a hammer.

    • 2

Tie string from stake to stake to mark the vinyl fence location. Spray the ground under the string with spray paint. Remove the stakes from the ground before continuing.

    • 3

Dig the postholes for the fence using a power auger or posthole digger. Follow the manufacturer's directions for the depth of the postholes.

    • 4

Cover both ends of each stringer with duct tape. Verify there are no holes showing, as these would allow concrete to seep into the stringer later when you fill the posts.

    • 5

Insert the panel pieces into the pre-drilled holes on the bottom stringer. Verify each piece fits securely. If it does not, add duct tape to the bottom pieces to make a tighter fit.

    • 6

Attach the top stringer to the panels working from one end. Adjust the panel pieces to fit into the pre-drilled holes verifying the stringer fits tightly around the panels.

    • 7

Secure the panel pieces to the top stringer with the screws provided and your drill.

    • 8

Place the first fence post in the ground and position it. The posts are manufactured to size; they must sit precisely at the exact height of the fence. Adjust as necessary.

    • 9

Adjust the height of the post if it's too high using a board and hammer. Lay the board across the top of the post and gently tap the post into the ground. If the post is too low, add gravel beneath it.

    • 10

Mix concrete according to the manufacturer's directions and pour into the posthole. Verify the post is level with a carpenter's level. Brace the post in position with stake and allow the concrete to cure.

    • 11

Set the next post and pour the concrete. Do not brace this post into position yet.

    • 12

Fit the vinyl fence panel between the posts with a helper. Insert the top and bottom stringers into the pre-drilled holes on the first post.

    • 13

Insert the stringers on the opposite end of the panel of the next post. Insert a screw into the top stringer to secure it using the screw provided and your drill.

    • 14

Level the second post and brace it with stakes and a hammer.

    • 15

Insert each post, level it and brace it before working on the next panel. Repeat.

    • 16

Attach the post caps with the screws provided and your drill.

    • 17

Cover all the exposed screw heads with screw caps.
