The Installation of a Vinyl Coated Lawn Fence

Fencing serves several functions. It's an obstacle for trespassers and intruders, providing privacy for you and your family, and can prevent your kids and dog from leaving your yard. You have several options to choose from when installing a fence, including vinyl fencing. Vinyl fencing can serve as a privacy fence, as the solid fence panels are often about 6 feet tall. Install a vinyl fence with a little help and save money on installation costs.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray paint the fence line onto the ground, going around immovable objects such as trees and large rocks.

    • 2

Mark the location of the fence posts by driving wooden stakes into the ground. The spacing is determined by the width of the fence posts.

    • 3

Dig post holes with a post hole digger. Dig the holes deep enough to hold at least one-third of the post's height plus a 6-inch layer of gravel and make it about 10 inches wide.

    • 4

Pour 6 inches of gravel into each post hole and tamp it down.

    • 5

Mix a batch of concrete, following the instructions on the packaging.

    • 6

Pour concrete into the first hole until it's halfway full. Place the first post into the hole and tap it down until it is on top of the gravel base. Pour more concrete into the hole until it is full and check the post for plumb (vertically straight) and level (horizontally straight).

    • 7

Set the rest of the corner and end posts into position using the same method. Allow the posts to set in the concrete for the time specified on the packaging.

    • 8

Tie a string between the posts. The string acts as a guide for setting the line posts.

    • 9

Install the line posts, using the same method you used for the corner and end posts. Place the posts so that one edge lines up flush against the string.

    • 10

Attach brackets for the fence panels to the fence posts. Read the installation instructions as it can vary by manufacturer.

    • 11

Place fence panels in the brackets and screw them together.

    • 12

Connect post caps to the posts with vinyl adhesive.

    • 13

Install a gate for the fence. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the proper way to install the gate for the fence you purchased.
