How to Install Fencing on a Steep Grade

Installing fencing around your yard can have many advantages. If you have a dog, you will know that your pet is secure on your property at all times. When your kids play out in the yard, a fence is also an added layer of security to keep your kids in view and away from potential hazards, such as the street. While there are many reasons to install a fence, you may be hesitant because of the obstacles your property poses. One common obstacle is a steep grade, but with the right techniques, you can successfully install the fence even on a steep hill.

Instructions

    • 1

Figure out the beginning and end point for your fence along the steep grade. Mark these areas using chalk.

    • 2

Drive in the stakes at either end of the steep grade, or at the beginning and end points you marked.

    • 3

Tie a string around the bottom of the post at one end of the steep grade. Pull the string across the ground to the bottom of the other post. With your chalk, mark all the areas of the grade where the string is touching the ground.

    • 4

Install additional posts at each spot you marked with chalk. These posts will help to brace the fence along the steep grade and make it sturdier.

    • 5

Add the fencing material. No matter what type of fencing material you're using, install it from the first post to the next. Pull the fence material tightly before securing it to the next post. Once you're finished, you will have a sturdy fence running along the steep grade.
