How to Install a Brighton Vinyl Fence

Vinyl fences allow you to maintain privacy in your yard. When you decide to install a fence on your property, first select a panel style. The Brighton panel offers both privacy and security since it consists of a solid panel with three cross braces. The fence post holes require the most time and effort in this project. The rest of the fence goes together quickly once the posts are secured in the ground.

Instructions

    • 1

Call the local digger's hotline and ask them to send someone to your property to mark out all utility lines. Based on the location of your utility lines, use spray paint on the grass to indicate the vinyl fence's location.

    • 2

Measure the Brighton panel's width and the width of one fence post. Add these two widths together to determine how far apart to dig the fence post holes. Use spray paint to mark each fence post's location on the paint line you drew in Step 1.

    • 3

Dig a 12-inch-wide hole centered over each fence post mark on the spray paint line, using a post hole digger. Make each hole approximately 30 inches deep. Pour 6 inches of gravel into each hole. Use a tape measure to ensure each hole is the same depth so you end up with level fence posts. Decide which holes the latch posts for the gate will be mounted in.

    • 4

Center a fence post into the first hole next to the latch post. Mix cement according to the manufacturer's directions and shovel it into the hole, around the post. Hold a level against the post and adjust it as necessary so it sits straight in the hole.

    • 5

Measure 2 inches down from the top of the fence post and place a mark. Measure from the Brighton panel's top edge to the first horizontal bar's top edge. Transfer this measurement to the fence post, measuring down from the first mark. Place a fence bracket against the post and line up the bracket's top edge with the second mark you just made. Make sure you mount the bracket on the fence post's side so it points toward the next hole. Secure the bracket to the fence post with the provided screws.

    • 6

Measure from the top of the Brighton panel's top rail down to the top of the Brighton panel's second horizontal rail. Transfer this measurement to the fence post and place a mark; put this mark on the same side as the bracket you installed in Step 5. Line up a second bracket's top edge with this mark and secure the bracket to the post with the supplied screws.

    • 7

Measure from the second horizontal bar's top edge down to the third horizontal bar's top edge and transfer this measurement to the post. Place a third bracket on the post with the bracket's top edge aligned with the mark you just made. Secure the bracket to the post with the supplied screws.

    • 8

Repeat Steps 5 through 7 on a fence post not yet installed in the ground. Lift the Brighton panel up to the installed fence post and lower its horizontal rails onto the installed brackets. Place the loose fence post in the next hole. Place the Brighton panel's horizontal rails on the loose rail's brackets.

    • 9

Secure the Brighton panel to the mounted fence post with the provided screws. Hold a level against the loose fence post and adjust it as necessary. Secure the Brighton fence post to the loose fence post. Fill the loose fence post's hole with cement.

    • 10

Repeat Steps 5 through 9 with the fence post you just mounted and a new fence post. Continue until all Brighton panels have been installed. Push the fence post caps over the fence posts.
