Store twigs in a dry, ventilated area before using them in landscaping. Wet twigs may rot.
Strip twig bark using a pocket knife, if desired.
Wash twigs with soap and water, allow them to dry and apply paint, stain or varnish if desired. All of these products will beautify your twigs and protect them from insects and moisture.
Cut twigs to a uniform length using a hacksaw. Criss-cross the twigs to make a lattice shape and attach them at intersection points using nails or wire. Drive sections of criss-crossed twigs into the ground near garden plants to use as a trellis, or border your garden with a twig lattice fence.
Stick twigs vertically into the ground to make a protective circle around individual plants.
Arrange branches in a tent shape, with each branch at a 45-degree angle to the ground, propped up against other branches at the top point. Reinforce the twigs with rope. These tents can make rustic shelters for children playing outside, or whimsical garden sculptures.
