Collect a variety of long-neck bottles in all sizes, colors and styles. Clean the bottles thoroughly to avoid attracting insects.
Drive the bottlenecks completely into the soil around your garden or individual plants to make a protective ring.
Build up and pack soil around the bottles to secure them in place.
Collect glass bottles identical in size. Clean the bottles thoroughly to avoid attracting insects.
Measure the diameter of a bottle's base.
Measure around your yard to determine the length of your fence. Decide how tall you want the fence to be. Divide both measurements by the bottle's diameter to determine how many bottles you'll need for each row and column.
Dig a trench around your yard where you want the fence to be. Make the trench 3-inches deep and as wide as the height of a bottle.
Line the trench with a layer of mortar. Place bottles horizontally onto the mortars side by side, with all the bases facing in one direction, in a wine-rack fashion.
Lay another layer of mortar over the bottles. Stagger the next row of bottles over the first row.
Continue laying mortar and placing bottles until the fence is as high as you want.
