How to Make Dividers Out of Lattice

A divider in your yard can help hide unsightly items or create a private area from the rest of the yard. If you prefer the divider to look somewhat decorative, construct it using lattice panelsl. You can install panels in the ground to make a short or tall wall to cordon off the area you want without making it looks completely closed off.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate where you want a divider. If it is a long area of more than 4 feet, you will need more than two posts to support the divider.

    • 2

Measure off and mark the ground every four feet along the divider line.

    • 3

Dig holes for each post where you marked. Dig down 3-1/2 feet.

    • 4

Fill each hole with 6 inches of gravel and pack it down.

    • 5

Insert 9-foot long, 4-by-4 posts in each hole.

    • 6

Tie four pieces of twine around the posts midway from the ground and the top of the post. Tap stakes in the ground on each side of the post and tie the other end of the pieces of twine to the stakes to hold the posts up. Use a level while you tie the twine in order to keep the posts straight.

    • 7

Add cement mix and water to a bucket according to the directions. Pour the cement into each hole and let it dry for a day.

    • 8

Place lattice panels up between two posts and attach them with screws. Use a drill to create pilot holes along the sides of the lattice before hanging it up. Insert the first screw into a top corner. Adjust the panel with the help of a level to ensure it's straight and then insert a screw on the other side. Add more screws to finish each panel.
