Installation Instructions for SLC 500 32-Channel Digital I/O Modules

The SLC 500 is a digital input/output module that provides 32 communication channels, each of which can send control signals to industrial devices. This module is designed to fit inside an Allen-Bradley 1746 SLC 500 modular chassis. You can add multiple SLC 500 modules to such a chassis to control additional devices, if needed. Installing the SLC 500 is not a very complicated task, but wiring all 32 channels can be very time consuming.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the power to the Allen-Bradley 1746 SLC 500 Modular Chassis

that you intend to install the SLC 500 into.

    • 2

Align the SLC 500 circuit board with the matching chassis socket.

    • 3

Slide the SLC 500 into the chassis socket until the clips on the top and bottom tabs click into place. The SLC 500 is now installed in the chassis, but you still need to attach the wiring connector.

    • 4

Locate the female adapter of the 1746-N3 Connector that comes included with the SLC 500. This adapter is found on the end of a long wire.

    • 5

Plug the female adapter into the 32-point socket on the SLC 500. You can now wire each individual wire from the 1746-N3 connector to the devices you need to control with the SLC 500. You will need to refer to the wiring schematics provided by a control systems engineer, or write up your own schematics to perform the wiring correctly.

    • 6

Reconnect the power to the chassis.
