How to Extend Up a Galvanized Fence

Galvanized fencing is found in a variety of commercial and residential applications as it is inexpensive and requires very little maintenance. While galvanized fencing is typically 3 to 6 feet in height, it is possible to extend the height of the fencing to meet a specific fencing need. The process for extending the height of the fence is relatively straightforward and does not require expensive or specialty tools and equipment.

Instructions

    • 1

Select mesh cloth to connect to the existing galvanized fencing. As a wide variety of different types of mesh cloths are available, choose a mesh cloth that is thick and sturdy enough to not flex too much when attached to the existing fence. Further, ensure that the mesh cloth is tall enough to provide the desired height extension.

Use the wire snippers to cut several pieces off the baling wire. Ensure that the pieces are long enough to extend through both the original fencing and the mesh cloth. More pieces may be required if a particularly long section of mesh cloth is being installed.

Unroll the mesh cloth and align it with the top of the galvanized fencing. Next, place the wire pieces from the baling wire through the bottom of the mesh cloth and the top of the galvanized fencing. Use the pliers to twist the wires so that they hold the mesh cloth in place. Repeat the process until the entire section of mesh cloth is secured into place.
