How to Make a Cinder Block Fence Look Better

Having a cinder block fence in your yard can protect your property and make you feel secure but it can also be an eyesore. While you may want to tear the fence down, it may not be an option, especially if the fence belongs to your neighbor. One thing you can do, however, is try to hide the fence or make it look better. There are several ways you can do this.

  Install a wooden or vinyl fence in front of the cinder block fence.

  Paint the fence. This can range from simply using a solid color to coat the gray cinder blocks to painting creative murals. For instance, you can paint a natural scene, like a forest or pond; if your kids play baseball in the yard, you can paint the fence to resemble the outfield wall at their favorite team's ballpark.

  Apply stone veneer to the walls. Veneer is concrete poured to resemble natural stone and is attached to the wall with mortar.

  Cover the cinder blocks with stucco. The stucco can improve the wall’s appearance. Also, if you add pigments to the stucco mix, you can match it with the color of your home.

  Plant ivy along the base of the fence so it grows up the fence, hiding it. You can also plant bushes or trees in front of the fence.
