How to Build a Movable Fence

A moveable fence functions as a permanent fence with the added benefit of being portable. If you need a fence for only a short time, a moveable fence is a cost-effective solution. This fence is well suited for garden areas containing small pets or for keeping small children enclosed in a safe area. Snow fence and rebar keep the project’s cost low while making the fence easy to install and take down.

Instructions

  1. Fence Construction

    • 1

Select a large, level, open area for constructing your movable fence. Place the rebar stakes in a parallel line along the ground. Spread the stakes out so there is a 4-foot space between each one.

    • 2

Lift up the first rebar stake and pound it 2 feet into the ground using a rubber mallet. The stake should be sticking up 4 feet out of the ground. Repeat with each rebar stake keeping them in a straight line.

    • 3

Unroll a few feet of the plastic snow fence. Wrap the fence’s end tightly around the first stake. Attach the fence securely at the top of the stake using a heavy duty zip tie. Pull the zip tie tight and cut off the end with a pair of sharp scissors. Attach the fence to the first post with another zip tie at the bottom and another in the middle of the post.

    • 4

Unroll a little more of the snow fence. Stretch it tightly to the next rebar stake. Attach the fence to the stake with a zip tie at the bottom, a zip tie in the middle, and another at the top. Cut off all the ends of zip ties with sharp scissors.

    • 5

Install the rest of the fence repeating this process. On the last stake, wrap the fence around the post before attaching it. Cut off the extra fence with sharp scissors.

    Fence Removal

    • 6

Pull the first stake out of the ground and lay it flat on the ground. Repeat with each stake.

    • 7

Roll the first stake down the fence line rolling up all the other stakes with it. Keep the roll as tightly wrapped as possible.

    • 8

Tie the roll together with a piece of rope. The fence is now truly portable.
