Names for a Lattice Strip

Landscaped areas, decks, gardens and porches often include lattice strips as part of their design. A lattice strip is a rectangular piece of criss-crossed plastic, vinyl or wood that can be cut to fit an opening. Lattice strips are frequently used to fill in empty space between a nearly ground-level porch or deck and the ground beneath it. A standard lattice strip is usually 1 to 2 feet wide and 8 feet in length.
  1. Skirt

    • A common name for a lattice strip is a skirt or lattice skirting. Skirting is the installation of lattice around the bottom of a structure and is generally useful in keeping unwanted animals out of the space. Mobile homes often incorporate lattice skirts into their design. The skirt hides bare areas beneath the mobile home and adds eye-appeal to its exterior.

    Surround

    • A lattice strip is also termed a surround. A surround serves the same purpose as a lattice strip, but usually signifies that lattice has been installed around the base of the entire structure. If you only use a lattice strip in one area of your yard or on one small section of your house, it is not usually called a surround. Conversely, lattice stripping around your entire backyard shed, fence, house or mobile home is referred to as a surround.

    Panel

    • Lattice panels and lattice strips are used interchangably. Most hardware stores refer to larger, wider lattice pieces as panels and skinnier, shorter lattice pieces as strips. Some fence designs use both larger lattice panels and thinner lattice strips in their construction. If you need to purchase lattice strips and you refer to them as panels, you need to tell the customer service agent what size panels you need.

    Border

    • If you have a garden area, a porch or landscape that incorporates lattice strips into the design, it is often called border. Border lattice is usually the same size and serves the same purpose as a lattice strip. Border lattice keeps animals and rodents out of your space and serves as a decorative addition to your home design.
