Easy Way to Lift Out & Handle Security Gate Pocket Posts

Security gates control the flow of traffic to residential and commercial buildings by verifying that a person who has come to the property has permission to enter and leave. Some security gates have pocket posts with a wooden arm that lifts to allow traffic through, and lowers for security into a secondary post holder. To ensure you don't damage the electronic sensors inside the the main pocket post, you have to handle the post carefully.

Instructions

    • 1

Unload the crate holding the pocket post directly onto the wheeled dolly to move it to the area where it will be installed. Pry off the top and the sides of the crate with the pry bar.

    • 2

Keep the gate post still bolted to the bottom crate board. Inspect the security gate for any damage. Hold the top of the box while placing your foot on the back of the dolly. Lean the gate post back onto the dolly so you can roll it.

    • 3

Roll the dolly to the spot where the gate post will be installed, either a cement island or small cement pad. Perform all measurements to pre-drill the holes for the post connections into the cement.

    • 4

Unscrew the bolts holding the gate pocket post to the bottom crate board. Place your hands on the post and rock it while moving it forward, called "walking the equipment," toward the holes in the cement.

    • 5

Secure the post into the cement with the bolts provided. Install the mechanical arm according to the manufacturer's instructions.
