How to Lay Flagstone on a Concrete Block Wall

Concrete block walls, while durable and stable are not attractive. Lay decorative flagstones on top of the wall to enhance its appearance and provide comfortable seating, if the wall is the correct height. Choose from many different shapes, sizes and colors of flagstones to top the block wall. The construction of the flagstone cap on a concrete block wall generally moves along at a fast pace and does not require stone construction experience or special tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Select decorative flagstone -- as flat as possible on one side -- that is approximately the same width as the top of the concrete block wall.

    • 2

Clean the top of the concrete block wall thoroughly with a stiff-bristled brush and sweep it clean with a whisk broom.

    • 3

Lay down a solid line of stonework construction adhesive along the top of the concrete block wall.

    • 4

Place a flagstone on top of the concrete block and press it down firmly. Position another flagstone end-to-end with the first one. Choose a flagstone with edges that fit together with the first one as closely as possible.

    • 5

Continue the same process down the length of the wall. When you approach a corner, fit the stones together as closely as possible. Maintain the flagstones in a straight line on top of the concrete block wall.
