How to Install PVC Fencing on a Concrete Surface

Typically, a PVC fence is installed on posts buried in the ground and embedded in concrete. This type of installation provides the strength required to keep the fence in place during strong windstorms or the occasional assault by young children. Another type of installation provides a little less strength but allows the fence to be installed on top of concrete surfaces using a specially designed post containing a mounting foot. Installing the post correctly will ensure the PVC fence has the strength required to keep it upright in all situations.

Things You'll Need

  • Flanged mounting posts
  • Permanent marker
  • 3/16-inch masonry drill bit
  • Hammer drill
  • 1/4-inch masonry screws
  • Tape measure
  • Screw gun
  • PVC fence section

Instructions

    • 1

Set a flanged mounting post on top of the concrete surface. Adjust the post until it sits in the required location. Press the tip of a permanent marker into the holes located in the flange to mark each hole's location. Move the post from the area.

    • 2

Slide a three-sixteenth-inch masonry drill bit in the chuck of a hammer drill. Measure the length of a one-quarter-inch masonry screw with a tape measure. Mark the measured length, plus one-quarter inch, on the shaft of the drill bit with the permanent marker.

    • 3

Drill a hole at each location marked on the concrete. Drill down until the mark on the bit shaft meets the surface of the concrete. Align the holes in the post-mounting flange with the drilled holes.

    • 4

Run one quarter-inch masonry screw into each hole -- until tight -- with a screw gun.

    • 5

Measure the distance between the vertical center posts of a PVC fence section. Install a second post at the measured distance using the method described in steps 1 through 4.

    • 6

Fasten the PVC fence section to the installed posts per the manufacturer's specifications.
