How to Retain Wall Lights Under Cap Lights

Whether you install a garden wall, walled walkway or capped edging on a building, placing wall lights under the capstone can help light the area at night. Positioning wall lights beneath the capstone channels the lights toward the ground and outward, providing ideal lighting for pathways and gardens. These types of lights are best installed when you first create the wall so you can position the light brackets between the stones.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the capstone with a screwdriver and hammer so you can remove it to install the lighting. Set the capstone aside.

    • 2

Lay the flat tab of the copper or brass mounting bracket onto the top of the exposed brick.

    • 3

Drill a channel just deep enough for the wire through the surface of the exposed brick so the wire can run through the brick and attach to your power source.

    • 4

Snap the cap light into place on the bracket, making sure it is secure and won't fall out.

    • 5

Run the wire through the narrow channel you cut and attach it to the power source. The power source can be a direct connection to your breaker box or a common electrical plug.

    • 6

Spread a thin layer of mortar over the top of the bracket and exposed brick.

    • 7

Lay the capstone back in place over the bracket and exposed brick. Press it down firmly and allow it to dry.

    • 8

Repeat the process to install additional lights if needed.
