How to String Chimes Together

One way to spruce up your outdoor spaces is to hang wind chimes over your patio, so that on nights when you open your windows and let in the breeze, the soft tones can blow into your indoor living areas as well. You can use just about anything as a noisemaker in your chime set: It might be a hollow pipe, but it could also be a string of pine cones or a cowbell without the clapper, as long as you have the right hooks to string it together.

Instructions

    • 1

Line up your noisemakers from shortest to tallest. If any of them do not have an obvious place to attach fishing line at the top, use craft glue to add a hook.

    • 2

Allow any craft glue to dry for the time indicated on the tube or bottle, though 24 to 48 hours will usually do the trick.

    • 3

Unspool the amount of fishing line you need to run a line through all of the hooks or attachment points. Then, unspool the same amount again, so you have a double length.

    • 4

Put the fishing line through the attachment point on the final noisemaker -- this will usually be something metallic and loud. Move the noisemaker to the middle of the fishing line, and pull both of the ends up toward yourself. Add several beads, sliding both ends through them to create distance between noisemakers.

    • 5

Insert both ends of the fishing line through the attachment point on the next noisemaker, then add beads. Continue until you are finished, then tie the top ends to the hanger, or whatever you are using to suspend your chimes.
