How to Mount Lattice on a Deck

Lattice is a material that you can use as a roof for shade on an outside structure or to mount a skirt for the front of your deck. This improves the appearance of your deck by restricting the underside view. A lattice panel can be mounted on your deck by first determining how big the panel needs to be. You can find materials to use this project at your local home-improvement store.

  • 4-inch-by-8-inch lattice panels

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height from the ground to the bottom of the deck with a tape measure. Write down the width. Measure and note the distance between the deck posts.

    • 2

Transfer the measurement of the height of the deck to a 4-inch by 8-inch lattice panel. Make a cut mark with a pencil.

    • 3

Cut the lattice panel to the required size using a circular saw. Continue to cut panels until you have enough to span the width of your deck.

    • 4

Place the first piece of lattice up against a deck post. Secure the lattice to a deck post with finishing nails using the nail gun. You can also secure the lattice panels by using the staple gun. Place a nail or staple every 8 to 10 inches along each side of the lattice panel.

    • 5

Set the next piece of lattice in place and secure it to the deck post. Repeat this step to secure the remaining lattice panels to the deck posts.
