How to Use Marine Plywood

Marine plywood is constructed of waterproof glue which makes the product suitable for use outside on water. A wooden boat that is in need of repairs requires marine grade plywood. This wood can be cut in the same manner as a standard piece of plywood. Lumber yards and home improvement stores carry the type of plywood that you need.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area of the repair with the tape measure. Obtain width and height to determine the correct size.

    • 2

Transfer the measurements in step 1 to a piece of paper. Draw an outline with the pencil and then cut it out with the scissors.

    • 3

Place the template on a sheet of marine plywood. Trace around the template to create an outline on the plywood. Cut around the outline with the circular saw.

    • 4

Apply an epoxy to the backing plates or frame of the boat. Place the cut piece of marine plywood in place and secure it with screws using the power drill.

    • 5

Allow the epoxy to cure for 24 to 48 hours and remove the screws from the plywood. Fill holes with a patching compound. Sand the patching compound smooth with the sandpaper.
