Cutting Cement in Front of a Sliding Door

When cutting concrete in an area where dust and cement debris can cause damage, use a concrete chainsaw with a water supply. Unlike cut-off and circular saws, this type of chain saw will allow you to make plunge and flush cuts into cement material. Concrete chainsaws are easy to handle when cutting masonry material and are equipped with a water supply that prevents a majority of cement dust and debris from blowing into the air. The water supply also cools the chainsaw's bar and diamond chain.

Instructions

    • 1

Snap a straight line onto the concrete in front of the sliding door using a chalk snap line. Remove any objects from in front of the door.

    • 2

Attach the water supply hose to a concrete chainsaw's intake stem. Turn on the water source and test the chainsaw water outlet to make sure water is supplied at a steady flow. Top up any fluids and check the chainsaw's safety features for any defects before using.

    • 3

Start the chainsaw following manufacturer guidelines and turn on the water supply. Working backward, plunge the chainsaw bar straight down into the concrete while the chain is rotating at full power. Stop pushing the bar into the concrete when you see dirt flow from the new cut, which means that you reached the bottom of the cement.

    • 4

Walk backward direction with the chainsaw trailing you while you cut the concrete. Rock the chainsaw bar back and forth while cutting so the chain digs into the concrete.

    • 5

Stop cutting the concrete if the chalk line is no longer visible due to the water and cement dust mixture. Wash the line off with water so it is visible again and continue cutting until the task is complete.
