How to Remove Teak Decks

Teak is among the most beautiful of woods. It is used in a variety of applications, most often as boat decking, but it can also be found attached to residential homes. Like any other wood, teak decks can become rotted or damaged over time. When this occurs, you can simply pull up the damaged teak wood planks and replace them with more teak planks or another wood. Once the new planks are in place, you'll need to coat them with wood sealer.

  Clear everything off your teak deck or move objects away from the damaged area so you have room to work.

  Determine which planks are damaged or warped by visually inspecting each plank. If possible, look at the underside of the deck to see if some planks are rotting in spots not visible from the top of the deck.

  Use a screw gun to unfasten the screws in the damaged teak deck planks. Slide a pry bar between the freed teak plank and the deck joists and pry the plank up from the deck frame.

  Set the removed teak wood aside but do not dispose of it; you will use the planks as measurement templates to cut new ones. Place it in a neat pile until you are ready to cut replacement planks.
