How to Install a Gas Grill on a Deck

Gas grills are self-contained outdoor appliances that use clean-burning propane to cook food. Unlike charcoal, you can regulate the temperature on a gas grill with a volume knob that increases or decreases the amount of gas flowing into the burners. Installing a gas grill on a deck is a straightforward task and can be done by practically anyone. Before you install the gas grill, measure your deck to make sure you have ample room to set it up and store it when not in use.

Instructions

    • 1

Unpack the gas grill and set the components on your deck.

    • 2

Turn the gas grill housing upside-down and attach the legs with a wrench and the bolts that came in the packaging.

    • 3

Turn the grill upright, resting it on its legs on your deck. Install the burners inside the grill with the wrench and a pair of pliers. Tighten the burners down securely to keep them in place.

    • 4

Place the fuel tray or lower grate inside the grill over the top of the burners if so equipped. Some gas grills will come with three grill trays -- a "rock" tray and two "cooking" or "food" trays -- one on the grill housing and the other in the grill top or hood.

    • 5

Fit the cooking grill tray into place then snap the top cooking grate into place in the hood. Roll or walk the gas grill into the space on your deck where you want it to go.

    • 6

Place the propane tank near the gas grill and connect the fuel hose between the grill and the tank with a wrench. Set the propane tank under the grill into the retaining ring/harness to finish the installation.
