Look under your wood deck to determine which way the joists run under the deck planks. You will see them running perpendicularly to the wood planks.
Put on safety glasses and set the cutting depth of a circular saw to the same size as the thickness of the existing planks. For instance, if the existing planks are 1 inch thick, set your blade to cut 1 inch deep.
Cut lengthwise into the end plank with the circular saw between the joists underneath the deck.
Fit a pry bar into the cut line and pry up the end plank -- you might have to use a hammer to get the pry bar into the cut line. Then, pry up at least four or five more planks with the pry bar.
Measure one of the uncut planks for length, then cut the rustic cedar planks to the same length with the circular saw.
Fit the rustic cedar into the empty spaces on the deck and nail into place with stainless steel nails and a hammer. After you have nailed down two or three cedar planks, pry up the rest of the old planks with the pry bar. Cut more cedar planks to length as needed and fasten them to the deck joists with stainless steel nails and a hammer.
Apply an even coat of wood sealer over the newly installed cedar planks using a paintbrush and let dry as long as directed by the manufacturer to finish the job.
