How to Put Up Lattice

Lattice is a versatile addition to a home or garden. It may be used to enclose a deck or gazebo, provide a yard or garden trellis for climbing plants or become a decorative screen for hiding unsightly outdoor air conditioners or garbage cans. Lattice is easy to work with, requiring few tools, and a project can be completed in an afternoon.

  • Pre-cut lengths of lattice

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area you will cover with lattice and cut the lattice to size with a jigsaw. Alternatively, you may work with sections of lattice pre-cut from your local lumberyard.

    • 2

Use the 2-by-2 pine as supports for your lattice. Cut the wood to size with the circular saw and attach securely to your project with deck screws.

    • 3

Cut the U-molding to fit the pieces of lattice and slide it on. Attach the lattice to the supports with the deck screws, leaving a 1/4-inch space between pieces to allow for wood expansion.
