Mark the patio on the ground by driving wooden stakes or spray-painting the perimeter.
Dig a hole inside the patio area that is deep enough for a 4-inch gravel base, an inch of sand and the thickness of the recycled concrete pavers.
Cover the ground inside the hole with landscaping fabric to prevent weed growth and provide stability to the patio.
Fill the hole with 2 inches of gravel. Rake the gravel smooth and tamp it down. Add another 2 inches of gravel on top, smoothing and compacting it as well. If the gravel is creating a lot of dust, spray it down with a hose between the two layers.
Add the 1-inch-deep layer of sand to the hole, smoothing the surface of the sand with a 2-by-4 board.
Place edge restraints around the edges of the sand. Follow the installation instructions for the edge restraints you have, but they are generally installed by driving the provided pins or stakes into the ground through holes in the restraints.
Lay the recycled concrete pavers into the hole, staggering the pavers in every other row to strengthen the patio. Make any needed cuts with a wet saw.
Run a mechanical plate compactor over the top of the pavers.
Spread fine-grain sand onto the patio, and sweep as much of it as you can into the gaps between the pavers with a broom.
Clear all debris such as leaves or twigs from the patio, then apply a sand-binding sealant, following the manufacturer's instructions.
