How to Decorate a High Rise Balcony

People who live in high rise apartments typically don't have much outdoor space. When your apartment has a balcony, decorate it and create an area in which you want to spend time. Many different decor styles are appropriate for a high-rise balcony, such as an area filled with potted plants or a small area for outdoor dinners. Choose a style for your balcony that fits with your home decor and works well with your lifestyle.

Instructions

Place a weather-resistant rug on your balcony. Have the rug cut so that it covers most, if not all, of your balcony. Not only will this give the balcony visual appeal, but it will also ensure that you can comfortably walk on it barefoot.

Place plants on your balcony to give it color and life. Choose larger potted plants for the back of the balcony and smaller plants for the front. If you enjoy gardening, consider growing vegetables, such as tomatoes, in pots on your balcony. Herbs like basil, rosemary and oregano also work well in pots. Place planters on the ledge of your balcony and plant flowers like begonias or petunias for a pop of color. Choose plant varieties that are recommended for the sun conditions on your balcony.

Place a hammock or a couple of lounge chairs on your balcony to create a relaxing space in which you can take in the sights of the city or read a book. Add weather-resistant pillows in bright colors to the lounge chairs or the hammock for more color.

Add a bistro table and chairs to the balcony if you have space. This allows you to eat dinner or have drinks outside if you desire. Choose a high table and chairs so your view when you are sitting is not obscured by the balcony's railing.

Install lanterns on the wall of the balcony or place free-standing lanterns on a table to give the space a warm glow when you enjoy it after dark.
