Choose a paint color for your porch or a shade of stain that works with the rest of your home. A pure white front porch is classic in the Southern United States, while a porch stained a rich shade might work well with a brick home. Remember that if you choose to paint your porch it will likely need a new coat of paint periodically. Porches painted a pale color will need regular cleaning.
Install a hammock at one end of your long porch. Hang the hammock from the rafters of the porch or place it on a hammock frame if you have enough space.
Hang a swing or a glider on the other end of the porch. This way, two or more people can relax and enjoy the area together.
Place chairs down the length of the front porch, between the hammock and the swing. Select chairs that coordinate with the look of the home and your lifestyle. For example, you could select large rocking chairs, Adirondack chairs or lounge chairs.
Place weatherproof pillows in bright colors on each chair, the hammock and the swing.
Place plants in hanging containers along the front of the long porch. For a traditional look, go with Boston ferns. You could also select trailing flowers, such as petunias or impatiens. Choose plants that work well with the sun conditions on your porch. Place larger potted plants at the back of the porch flanking the door that goes into the house.
