How to Mount a Sun Screen on a Patio Cover

Adding a sun screen to your patio cover extends your home’s living space to the outdoors, creating a shaded area for entertaining, dining or simply relaxing. While retractable awnings and canopies can be costly and somewhat permanent, installing a sun screen on your existing trellis or pergola is relatively inexpensive and can be removed during the winter season. Proper installation and maintenance can keep your sun screen in excellent condition for years to come.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread the sun screen fabric evenly over the top of your patio cover. Position the corners of the sun screen at each corner of the patio cover frame.

    • 2

Tie one end of the rope or galvanized cable to one corner post. Thread the rope up through the corresponding corner grommet and wrap the rope once around the upper frame.

    • 3

Thread the rope up through the next grommet and wrap it once around the upper frame. Repeat for each grommet until you reach the next corner post.

    • 4

Pull the rope tight with a turnbuckle and secure it in place with a knot.

    • 5

Continue lacing the sun screen to the frame until you return to the beginning corner post. Tighten and tie off the rope at the corner post. Trim any excess rope.
