How to Pitch a Sunsetter Awning

A SunSetter-brand awning provides full or partial shade for a deck or patio. Such an awning can lower a daytime temperature as much as 20 degrees and make sitting outside in the summer a lot more comfortable. The awning's pitch determines how much sun the area receives during any time of the day. Lowering the awning in an area that receives more sun keeps out more sunlight. SunSetter awnings come from the factory with a drop of 29 inches, but the pitch is adjustable to suit your needs.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Awning for Adjustment

    • 1

Extend the awning fully with the remote control or the crank wand. Unplug a motorized awning after it is fully extended.

    • 2

Remove the bolts securing the override crank on the arm clamp with a 6mm hex key if you have a 10-foot awning. This provides access to the Allen cap bolts on the arm clamp.

    • 3

Turn the three Allen cap bolts on the end of the arm clamp beneath the roller counterclockwise ½ turn with the hex key while a helper gently lifts the front bar on the awning. Do not remove the Allen cap bolts.

    Reducing the Pitch

    • 4

Locate the two Allen set screws on the underside of the arm clamp. Turn the screw near the square bar counterclockwise with the hex key to loosen it.

    • 5

Turn the other Allen set screw clockwise while a helper lifts the front bar slightly higher than the desired level. Rotate the second Allen set screw clockwise to set the front bar at this height.

    • 6

Tighten the first Allen set screw by turning it clockwise. Repeat these steps to adjust the second awning arm in the same manner to level the front bar.

    • 7

Turn the three Allen cap bolts on the end of each arm clamp clockwise with the hex key. For 10-foot awnings, slide the override crank into place and replace the bolts. Turn bolts clockwise with the hex key to tighten.

    • 8

Plug in the power cord on motorized awnings.

    Increasing the Pitch

    • 9

Locate the two Allen set screws on the underside of the arm clamp. Turn the screw farthest from the square bar counterclockwise with the hex key until the front bar is at the desired height.

    • 10

Turn the set screw closest to the bar clockwise to tighten it and secure the front bar. Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 to adjust the other arm in the same manner to level the front bar.

    • 11

Turn the three Allen cap bolts on the end of each arm clamp clockwise with the hex key. For 10-foot awnings, slide the override crank into place and replace the bolts. Turn bolts clockwise with the hex key to tighten.

    • 12

Plug in the power cord on motorized awnings.
