DIY Patio Table Umbrella Stands

Patio table umbrellas are useful on sunny days, and they help create hours of comfortable outdoor recreation. These umbrellas require a stand to keep them steady in case of wind. Instead of purchasing a stand, you can make one out of cement that can be decorated to match your patio's decor. This stand is fairly easy to make, requiring only a few simple items from your local hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the depth of a 2-gallon bucket with a tape measure.

    • 2

Clamp a piece of PVC pipe in a vise and cut off a section 1 inch longer than your measurement. The pipe's diameter should be large enough for the patio umbrella to slide into easily.

    • 3

Stand the pipe in the middle of the bucket, and secure it in place with hot glue. Use enough glue to ensure a complete seal around the base of the pipe.

    • 4

Brush a coat of petroleum jelly onto the inside of the bucket to make removal easier.

    • 5

Mix enough cement and water to fill the bucket. Follow the mixing ratio provided on the cement package.

    • 6

Tap the sides of the bucket with a mallet to free any trapped air bubbles.

    • 7

Let the cement cure for 24 hours.

    • 8

Cut the bucket off the cement with a utility knife, leaving the pipe in place. Wipe off the excess petroleum jelly with paper towels.

    • 9

Decorate the stand as desired. You can paint it, glue decorative stones on it or simply leave it plain.
