Sealing Mahogany Trex Decking

Trex composite decking is a wood alternative for homeowners who don’t like the maintenance wood decks require. While a real-wood mahogany wood needs regular sealing and maintenance, a Trex deck that looks like mahogany requires cleaning twice a year to prevent mold and mildew. Trex recommends cleaning your Trex decking with a deck-brightening product that contains oxalic or phosphorus acid for best results.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep the Trex deck clean of any fallen debris, such as leaves, pollen, dirt and twigs.

    • 2

Rinse the deck with water from the hose.

    • 3

Fill a bucket with soap and water, dip the brush attached to a broom handle in the bucket and scrub the deck. Start on one end and work to the other. Repeat this until the entire deck is scrubbed.

    • 4

Rinse the deck with clear water.

    • 5

Use a deck brightener product if you find stained areas. Let the deck brightener sit on the stained area for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse clean with water when stain is gone.

Complete deck cleaning twice a year, in the spring and fall for best results. Clean up oil, food or grease spills immediately to avoid deck staining.
