Measure the width of the deck with a measuring tape. Cut two sections of 2-by-4-inch pressure-treated lumber to this measurement with a circular saw to form the top and bottom lattice frame plates, which are the sections that make up the top and bottom of the frame the lattice attaches to.
Measure the distance between the top edge of the rim joist, which is the outer board that sits below the decking boards at the end of the deck, and the ground. Cut one section of 2-by-4-inch lumber 7 inches shorter than this measurement for each end of the deck, and for each 16 inches of deck width, to form the lattice frame posts.
Assemble the width sections and two of the posts into a rectangle. Using a drill fitted with a screwdriver bit, insert 6-inch wood screws through the top and bottom frame plates into the ends of the posts. Repeat this process for the interior lattice frame studs, spacing the studs 16 inches apart between the end studs. Check the corners of the frame with a carpenter's square.
Cut lattice panels to fit the frame with a table saw. Nail the lattice panels to the frame with 3-inch nails and a hammer.
Position the frame on the rim joist so that the top of the frame is flush with the top of the joist. Attach the lattice frame to the rim joist with 6-inch wood screws. Repeat the process of building and installing lattice frames on the sides of the deck if necessary.
