Stallion Fence Deck Rail Installation Instructions

Acquired by New Jersey-based LMT Mercer Group in 2010, Stallion Fence products include rail components designed to complement vinyl and composite decks. Its tube-shaped railing is designed to be compliant with the Americans for Disability Act and local codes. You are most likely to install the Stallion Fence handrail on 4-by-4 posts at the base and top of your deck stairs, as well as at any intermediate landings.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult local codes for the range allowed for the height of the handrail from the top of the stair tread, which may range from 32 to 36 inches. Mark this height on each wooden post with a carpenter’s pencil.

    • 2

Align the handrail top with the mark temporarily, with the provided bracket cradling the handrail and pressed against the first post along the stair run. Make a lower mark in the mounting hole in the bracket. Set the handrail aside. Attach the bracket to the post with a 3/8-inch lag bolt at least 2 inches long. Snap the provided bolt cover over the bolt. Fasten the bracket to the second post in the same manner.

Lay the handrail on the brackets. Mark and cut the handrail with a hacksaw to the proper length, typically aligned with the outer edge of the deck post. Return the sized handrail to the brackets. Drill two holes with a 3/16-inch bit through the bracket rail-mounting holes into the bottom of the rail. Fasten with the provided screws. Attach the handrail end-cap to the end of the rail with PVC cement.
