How to Clean an Alumawood Patio Cover

Alumawood patio covers mimic the look of real wood without the extra maintenance. Made of textured aluminum, Alumawood patio covers resist fading, rust and corrosion. In most cases, rainfall is enough to keep the patio cover clean and free from debris. If dirt, stains or mold affect your Alumawood patio cover, scrub it clean with a long-handled brush. Clean the patio cover early on a sunny, dry day to allow for plenty of drying time.

Things You'll Need

  • Garden hose
  • Bucket
  • Regular laundry detergent
  • Trisodium phosphate (TSP)
  • Chlorine bleach
  • Long-handled brush
  • Step ladder

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any potted plants, furniture or other items from the patio area.

    • 2

Spray the Alumawood patio cover with a garden hose to rinse away any loose dirt or debris. If the patio cover is very dirty, fill a bucket with 1 gallon of hot water and mix in 1/3 cup laundry detergent and 2/3 cup trisodium phosphate, more commonly known as TSP. If mold or mildew is a problem, add 4 cups of chlorine bleach to the solution.

    • 3

Fill a pump sprayer with the cleaning solution or dip a long-handled brush into the bucket and apply it to one small section. If necessary, use a step ladder to reach the highest parts.

    • 4

Scrub the Alumawood patio cover with the long-handled brush, rinsing the cover with the garden hose after scrubbing each section. Allow the patio cover to air dry.

    • 5

Replace any plants, furniture or other items when the patio is dry.
