How to Enclose a Deck with Bamboo

Inspect your deck railing to ensure that it is stable. Look for rotten areas or warping that would affect the structural integrity of the deck railing. Replace any damaged or rotten boards before you proceed with the bamboo installation.

Measure the lengths of deck railing to determine how much of the bamboo fencing you need. Cut down the lengths of bamboo fencing as necessary to fit along the railing.

Hold the bamboo fencing in place along the deck railing. Use a level to ensure that the fencing is level.

Mark spots for holes at the top and bottom on the first piece of bamboo cane for the screws so they go into the end post on the deck railing. Mark additional holes every 10 to 12 inches along the fencing on both the top and bottom of the canes. Mark the holes so the screws will go into the top or bottom horizontal railing pieces for the greatest stability.

Drill holes in all of the marked spots on the bamboo fencing so you are able to easily attach it to the railing. Predrill holes in the same spots on the deck railing.

Line up the holes on the bamboo fencing with the holes on the deck railing. Attach the bamboo using 2-inch screws so they go through the bamboo and into the railing. Check the level of the bamboo fencing frequently.

Move along the deck railing, screwing in the bamboo fencing as you go. Add additional screws as necessary if certain areas of the fencing feel loose or unstable.
