# DIY Kool Deck Coatings
Kool Deck concrete topping, a product from the Mortex Company, was created in 1962. The topping keeps walkways cooler than normal cement during the hot summer months. Kool decks are often installed as garden walkways and around pools. Since they come in a variety of colors, sometimes the paint on the Kool Deck fades or chips. You can re-coat your Kool Deck with Systex deck paint all on your own.
Things You'll Need
- High-pressure hose
- Dishwashing detergent
- Scrub brush
- Systex deck paint
- Paint mixer
- Rollers
- Paintbrushes

Rinse the deck off with the high-pressure hose to remove any dirt or pebbles.

Scrub the Kool deck with the dishwashing detergent using the scrub brush. Remove any dirt, grease or peeling paint as you scrub the deck. Rinse the deck off with the high-pressure hose and allow the deck to dry.

Mix the paint for an even color with the paint mixer. Dip the rollers into the paint and apply it to the surface of the Kool Deck. Roll the paint over the deck to coat it completely. Use the paintbrushes to paint any edges around the deck.

Allow the deck to dry for 48 hours before you walk on it.
