How to Get a Stain Out of a Bathroom Rug

The bathroom is a high-traffic area. Throughout the course of a day, your bathroom rug may come in contact with sweaty feet, spilled skincare products, humidity from the shower and much more. It's no wonder stains build up. Most bathroom rugs have a rubber, nonslip backing to keep the rug in place. When laundered in the washing machine, the nonslip backing can become dry and crumble off, removing an important safety feature from your rug. Instead of removing stains in the washing machine, you can use spot-cleaning techniques to get stains out of your bathroom rug and maintain the backing material.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a paper towel over the stained area of the bathroom rug. Press on the towel with your hands or feet to soak up wet stain matter. Repeat this step to remove as much moisture from the stain as possible.

    • 2

Sprinkle baby powder over the stain until it's covered. Leave the powder on the rug for 20 minutes to absorb any oil from the stain. Vacuum the rug to remove the baby powder.

    • 3

Pour 1 tbsp. of white vinegar into a bucket. Add 1/2 tsp. of dish detergent and 2 cups of warm water.

    • 4

Moisten a clean cotton cloth with the detergent and vinegar solution. Use the solution to blot the stained area of the bathroom rug.

    • 5

Rinse the rug with a damp cloth to remove stain material and the cleaning solution. Alternate Steps 4 and 5 until the stain is gone.

    • 6

Hang the rug over a drying rack to allow it to dry on both sides.
