How to Remove Red Raspberry From a Carpet

Favored for their sweet, tangy flavor, red raspberries are used in juices, jams, sauces and desserts. While red raspberries enhance foods, they never complement carpets. Accidentally spilling raspberry beverages or foods on carpet taints it with red stains that immediately permeate the carpet fibers. The longer the raspberry stays in the carpet, the more insoluble and embedded the red stains become. Since older raspberry stains are typically harder to extract, promptly remove red raspberry from carpet before the stain sets.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot up the excess raspberry, using white paper towels. Avoid rubbing the carpet, as the raspberry stain may spread.

    • 2

Pour 1/4 tsp. of clear, bleach- and lanolin-free liquid dish soap into a mixing bowl. Fill the mixing bowl with 1 qt. of fresh, cold water. Mix the water with the dish soap.

    • 3

Dampen a white rag in the dish soap solution. Blot the raspberry with the rag, lifting as much red stain as possible. Frequently rinse accumulated raspberry residue from the rag, using fresh water.

    • 4

Mist cool water onto the carpet to rinse out the dish soap residue. Blot the carpet with a white dishtowel to absorb any moisture.

    • 5

Inspect the carpet for raspberry stains. If the red fruit stain persists, dampen a fresh rag with 3-percent hydrogen peroxide.

    • 6

Blot the remaining raspberry stain with the hydrogen peroxide, dissolving the red stain completely. Let the carpet absorb the peroxide for one hour.

    • 7

Cover the damp carpet with another dishtowel. Leave the dishtowel in place until the carpet dries. No rinsing is necessary.
