Marble is a type of metamorphic rock that is often formed from either calcite or dolomite. Homeowners use marble for kitchen and bathroom countertops or in tile form for floors and walls because of its elegant appearance. Burn stains can occur on the marble from dropped cigarettes or a heated flat iron. If this happens, the burn stain can only be removed by a homeowner if the burn mark is smooth. A rough burn mark will require the services of a professional stone restoration specialist.
