How to Get Mold Off Canvas Luggage

Packing for vacation can be almost as exciting as the trip itlself. But when you discover mold on your canvas luggage, the stains and odor will put a damper on your enthusiasm. Because mold is a living organism, it will continue to grow and will transfer to your belongings if you do not remove it. Effectively remove mold stains and smell from canvas luggage with household supplies and have your suitcases ready when you are.

Bed sheet
Bowl
1/2 cup table salt
1/2 cup lemon juice
Old toothbrush
Bucket
1/2 cup baking soda
1 cup white vinegar
Clean cloths

Instructions

  Sunlight dries out and kills mold spores.
  
  Lay an old bed sheet outdoors in a sunny location or near an open window that gets direct sunlight. Place the canvas luggage on the sheet. Unzip and open all compartments to allow for air circulation. Leave the luggage to sit in the sun until it dries.

  Fill a bowl with 1/2 cup each of table salt and lemon juice. Mix the two ingredients together to make a thin paste.

  Use an old toothbrush as a handy applicator.
  
  Brush the lemon and salt paste onto the mold stains on the canvas luggage using an old toothbrush. Let the luggage continue to sit in the sun until the paste dries.

  Remove the dried lemon paste and dead mold spores by brushing them off with the toothbrush.

  Pour 1 quart of warm water into a bucket. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of white vinegar.

  Dampen a clean cloth in the baking-soda solution. Scrub the canvas luggage to remove any remaining mold stains and the accompanying odor. Rinse the cloth as the stains are lifted. Apply more solution and continue to scrub.

  Wipe the canvas surface with a damp cloth to remove the baking-soda residue. Lay the luggage in a sunny location to air-dry.
