How to Get Orange Juice Out of My Car's Carpet

Favored for its citrus flavor and nutritional benefits, orange juice is a common breakfast beverage worldwide. Since many people drink orange juice while driving or riding to work and school, spills are inevitable. Orange juice quickly permeates carpet, forming orange stains that mar carpet’s appearance. The longer orange juice stains stay in the carpet, the crustier and harder to remove they become. Get orange juice stains out of your car’s carpet before they dry.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot up fresh orange juice using white paper towels. Lift as much orange liquid as possible.

    • 2

Extract any remaining fresh orange juice from the area using a wet/dry shop vacuum.

    • 3

Prepare a solution to dissolve the remaining orange stain. In a container, stir together 2 cups warm water and 1 tablespoon of clear, dishwashing liquid.

    • 4

Moisten a white cleaning cloth in the solution. Dab the car’s carpet with the sudsy cloth until no more orange liquid transfers. Always press a fresh section of cloth onto the carpet.

    • 5

Mist the area with fresh, cool water. Using a fresh cleaning cloth, blot the moist carpet to rinse out soap residue.

    • 6

Examine the car’s carpet for orange stains. If any orange juice stains remain, mist the affected carpet with 3 percent hydrogen peroxide. Let the remaining orange juice absorb the peroxide for an hour.

    • 7

Blot up the remaining orange stain using another cleaning cloth. Apply more hydrogen peroxide to the area, if necessary.

    • 8

Fold a bath towel and lay it over the damp carpet. Keep the car’s carpet covered until it is completely dry.
