How to Remove Grease on a Rough Metal Surface

Wiping grease off of a smooth metal surface such as a stove top is a breeze. But removing grease from rough metal surfaces can be a bit trickier. If the metal surface is rough and uneven, grease will accumulate in the cracks and crevices. One way to ease the process of cleaning this type of metal surface is to choose the right type of cleaning product. Rather than using harsh chemical cleaners, wash the grease away using gentle household products.

Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Baking soda
  • Liquid dish soap

Instructions

    • 1

Immerse the metal object in a solution of equal parts white vinegar and warm water and let it soak for 20 minutes. If you cannot immerse the object, spray the surface with undiluted white vinegar and wait 20 minutes.

    • 2

Sprinkle baking soda over the greasy area.

    • 3

Wet a scrub brush with white vinegar and add a few drops of liquid dish soap to the brush's bristles.

    • 4

Scrub the metal surface with the brush. The vinegar should have already dissolved much of the grease. The baking soda will help remove the grease and also acts as a mild abrasive.

    • 5

Rinse the metal thoroughly and allow it to air dry.
