How to Get Butter Out of a Satin Skirt

Although butter complements bread, popcorn and many other foods, accidentally spilling butter onto a satin skirt mars its naturally glossy appearance with oily blotches. These greasy stains quickly permeate satin and become embedded in the synthetic fibers. The longer butter remains on satin, the more difficult it is to remove, so it's essential to remove butter before the oil sets in. Fortunately, basic solutions can remove butter from a satin skirt and restore its shiny appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape excess butter off the satin skirt using a spoon. Scoop off as much butter as possible.

    • 2

Douse the remaining greasy satin with aerosol laundry pretreatment spray. Let the spray permeate the greasy satin for a minute. Do not rinse the satin.

    • 3

Launder the pretreated satin skirt with warm water and 2 ounces of powdered or liquid laundry detergent. Follow the skirt’s care label instructions.

    • 4

Examine the skirt for oily stains. If the satin contains any butter residue, launder the skirt again using the previous techniques.

    • 5

Dry the satin skirt in the dryer once the oily residue is completely removed. Use the dryer’s low or medium heat setting.
