How to Remove Hair & Skin Oil Stains From Pillowcases

Some people excrete more oils than others, and their pillowcases are more likely to become stained. Ideally, remove hair and body oil stains before you dry the pillowcases in the dryer, where the stains can set. If you remove hair and oil stains from your pillowcases at each washing, you can prevent the oil buildup and permanent stains.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a heavy-duty laundry detergent to the oil stains and rub it in. Wait three to five minutes, then scrub vigorously for two or three minutes. Alternatively, use a powdered detergent mixed with water to make a paste or a laundry pretreatment product.

Wash the clothes in your washing machine with hot water. Most pillowcases can be laundered in hot water, but read the care label for verification.

    • 3

Add the correct measure of laundry detergent as indicated on the label. If the pillowcases are bleach-safe, add 3/4 cup of bleach to the appropriate dispenser.

    • 4

Check for the oil stains after laundering. Repeat the preceding steps if the oil stains are still present.
