How to Polish a Compound Bar Feed

A compound bar is a type of metal surface which is made from three different layers of metal -- effectively with two layers of metal sandwiching a different metal in the middle. This creates a great strength in the middle, while allowing for structural versatility. To keep this metal looking its best, a thorough polishing regimen once every few months should do the trick.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the compound bar thoroughly using a soft cloth and warm water. It is vital that you remove all dust particles and debris from the surface before the polishing process; otherwise scratches can occur.

    • 2

Dry the surface completely using a towel or cloth. The surface must be entirely dry before you polish it.

    • 3

Purchase a metal polish suitable for the top layer of metal on the compound bar, often steel. Spray -- or pour, depending on the application method of the product -- some of the polish onto a cloth.

    • 4

Apply the polish to the surface, using strong, slow circular motions and working from the outside of the bar to the inside. Polish every inch of the compound bar for an even cover and shine.

    • 5

Repeat Step 4 until the shine is acceptable to you. There is no limit to the number of coats which may be required.
