How to Get Rid of Limescale on Flagstone Around a Pool

Limescale consists primarily of mineral deposits that were formerly dissolved in water. In areas with hard water, limescale buildup around a pool can be a persistent problem. As droplets of water evaporate, they leave behind chalky mineral deposits. On dark-colored flagstones, limescale can be a spotty, scaly eyesore. Luckily the residue is fairly easy to remove with any number of weak household acids that are safe to use around pools.

Instructions

    • 1

Dip a scrub brush in a small bowl of vinegar.

    • 2

Scrub the visible limescale buildup on the flagstone vigorously until it's gone or until you make no more progress removing it.

    • 3

Wipe up the vinegar with a wet rag. If only a bit of the limescale remains, repeat steps 1 and 2. If a significant amount of limescale remains, move on to step 4.

    • 4

Saturate a cloth in pickling vinegar or lime juice and place it over the limescale deposit for an hour.

    • 5

Scrub away the limescale with a scrub brush dipped in the vinegar or lime juice.

    • 6

Wipe or rinse the area clean. Repeat if necessary.
