How to Get Spit-Up Stains Out of a Couch

Baby spit-up consists of regurgitated formula or breast milk. The spit-up can land on your clothes, the floor or the couch. Clean it quickly so it doesn't soak down into the fabric and create a long-lasting odor. Once a baby spits up, you don't always have the time to purchase a commercial cleaner from the store. Treat the couch stain at home with items you likely already have.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the spit-up on the couch to determine if it has dried. If so, scrape the dried stain with a butter knife to remove it.

    • 2

Blot wet spit-up off the couch with a sponge or washcloth. Don't rub the stain or press too hard.

    • 3

Dampen a washcloth with water. Sprinkle baking soda onto the washcloth and blot the spit-up. The baking soda removes the stain and absorbs the odor.

    • 4

Blot dry cleaning solvent onto the couch if the spit-up remains. Blot until the couch absorbs the solvent and continue applying it until the stain disappears.
