Scrape the makeup off the upholstery with the dull side of a table knife. Wipe the knife on a paper towel after each swipe and continue until you remove as much of the makeup as you can.
Sprinkle baking soda over the remaining makeup stain to cover it completely. Leave the baking soda on the upholstery for at least 20 minutes to absorb the oil in the makeup.
Use a hand vacuum to remove the baking soda from the couch.
Fill a bowl with 2 cups of warm water. Add 1 tablespoon of dishwashing detergent. Stir the detergent into the water to make a soapy solution.
Moisten a clean cloth with the detergent solution. Wring out excess moisture to avoid getting the upholstery too wet.
Blot the remaining makeup stain on the couch. Rinse the cloth as the stain lifts. Apply more detergent solution and continue to dab the spot until the makeup stain is gone.
Rinse the upholstery with a damp cloth. Dry the upholstery by pressing a dry cloth onto it. Allow the couch to air dry the rest of the way.
