How to Get Mold Out of Outdoor Vinyl Covered With Fabric

Outdoor surfaces such as patio furniture are a prime target for mold stains. Repeated exposure to humidity, rain and heat contribute to the development of mold spores, which grow on porous and organic surfaces. Dirt on your fabric-covered vinyl surfaces creates the perfect place for mold to develop and spread. Don't allow mold to spread to nearby surfaces or ruin your fabric-covered vinyl. Use common household supplies to kill the mold spores and remove their accompanying stains and odor.

Instructions

    • 1
Use sunlight as a natural mold killer.

Place the fabric-covered vinyl items into direct sunlight until the surfaces are dry.

    • 2

Brush dried-up mold spores off the surface with a whisk broom and dustpan. Discard removed mold, dirt and debris into a trash bag. Seal the trash bag to prevent the transfer of mold to other surfaces.

    • 3

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of hot water. Stir in 1/2 cup of all-fabric bleach.

    • 4
Keep rubber gloves handy for use with chemical-based cleansers.

Wear rubber gloves to prevent your skin from dryness and irritation caused by bleach. Dip a scrub brush in the bleach solution and scrub the surface of your fabric-covered vinyl. Wash crevices and grooves to kill mold and remove stains and odors. Rinse the scrub brush as stains are lifted. Add more bleach solution and continue to wash the entire surface.

    • 5

Rinse fabric-covered vinyl surfaces with the garden hose to remove all bleach solution.

    • 6

Position the fabric-covered vinyl in the sunlight so it can air-dry. Turn furniture cushions over after an hour or two so both sides can dry.
