How to Get Rid of Mildew on Concrete Slabs

Mildew thrives on concrete slabs when it has moist, dark and humid living conditions. The mildew discolors the concrete, as spores continue to spread to other areas. Remove mildew quickly because it puts your health at risk, contributing to respiratory issues such as allergic reactions and asthma. After you kill the spores, control the environment to prevent the mildew from returning.

Instructions

    • 1

Combine 1 cup of chlorine bleach with 1 gallon of water in a bucket.

    • 2

Place a funnel onto the top of a spray bottle and pour the bleach solution into it.

    • 3

Spray the bleach solution onto the mildew and scrub the concrete with a stiff-bristled brush. Let the bleach solution sit on the surface for 15 minutes to further loosen the mildew.

    • 4

Rinse solution off the slabs with the garden hose or by pouring water from a bucket.

    • 5

Allow the concrete area to dry completely. Speed the drying process by placing fans or dehumidifiers next to damp areas.
